On August 15, the 2024 Hong Kong Food Expo, a five-day event, grandly opened at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The Agricultural Trade Promotion Center of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs participated as part of the China National Agricultural Pavilion. The Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of Hunan Province organized a delegation of premium agricultural brands from Hunan to participate in the event.

Under the theme of "Hunan: Land of Fish and Rice, A Beautiful Province", Hunan established a branded agricultural products exhibition area. The products featured include geographical indication items, tea, tea oil, rice, aquatic products, Pre-made dishes, fresh fruits, and vegetables. Hunan is one of the provinces with the largest number of participating enterprises and product categories in the National Agricultural Pavilion.

After the opening ceremony, the exhibition's VIP guest tour visited Hunan's booth. Mr. Algernon Yau, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, highly praised the Hunan booth and expressed keen interest in its products. The Hunan exhibition area offered live cooking demonstrations where visitors could sample specialty foods from various parts of Hunan. It also featured a social media-friendly photo zone, where visitors could collect stamps from tasting sessions at Hunan booths to win special Hunan-themed gifts, drawing large crowds for live streaming and social media engagement.

Since 2015, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of Hunan Province has organized delegations to participate in the Hong Kong Food Expo for several consecutive years, showcasing and promoting the province’s high-quality agricultural products. These efforts have significantly advanced initiatives such as "Hunan Products Going Global" and "Hunan Products Entering Hong Kong". This year's participation marks the first return to in-person events following the pandemic. Over the past four years, Hunan's agricultural exports to Hong Kong have totaled USD 5.29 billion, with Hong Kong remaining Hunan’s largest export market and most reliable trading partner.

On the second day of the expo, the Hunan Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs will host a promotional event titled "Hunan: Land of Fish and Rice, A Beautiful Province", providing a comprehensive introduction to Hunan's agricultural products and policies for trade and investment in related industries. Additionally, three on-site procurement matchmaking sessions will be organized for buyers and suppliers.
